As early as 1790, three Carper brothers leased property in the Northern Neck Proprietary, later known as the Shawnee District. Carpers and other families with whom they intermarried quickly populated the area, which came to be designated the Carpers Valley Precinct. Today, numerous Carper descendants continue to live in or near Carpers Valley.

William Preston Barger (1794-1870) was the tenth son of John Barger (ca.1754-1832), who settled the land near the Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County, Virginia. William Preston Barger married Mary Ann Shafer, and they farmed some of the family land near Gilmore Mills, Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, Iowa, California and elsewhere.

Ephraim Headlee was born 21 January 1758 in Morris County, New Jersey and died in Greene County, Pennsylvania 6 December 1822. He was a son of John Headlee and grandson of Richard Headlee. John died before seeing active service, after enlisting in the New Jersey military for the Revolutionary War; Ephraim thereupon served with the same military as an army scout. Chiefly a record of some descendants and family members of Simon Ruffcorn and Mary. He was born ca. 1749 and lived in New Britain, Pennsylvania. He married Mary before 25 Feb 1778. Mary died May 1814 in Tyrone Township, Pennsylvania. Simon died 13 Feb 1841 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of seven known children. Descendants lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, France, Illinois, New Jersey, and elsewhere.

Thomas Bays was born in Maryland 3 September 1798. His parents were John Franklin Bays and Mary Ann Knight. He married Nancy Ann Linigar (1800-1876), daughter of Isaac Linigar and Rebecca, in about 1818. They had fifteen children. Thomas died in 1886 in Niles, Michigan.
