Johann George Gruber (1802-1867) married Anna Maria Schäffer in 1833, and the family immigrated in 1846 from Germany to Cumberland, Maryland, later moving to Iowa City, Iowa. Their son, Johannes, married Anna Margaretha Reissenweber, and the letters are between various members of the Gruber and Reissenweber families. Descendants lived in Iowa and elsewhere.

Benedikt Burgstahler was born in about 1630 in Austria. He had one known son, Simon Burgstahler (1667-1712). Simon married Anna Kathrina Nagel in Spöck, Baden, Germany in 1697. They had seven children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Germany, throughout the United States and elsewhere.

James McMillan, probably the son of Daniel McMillan and Rosanna Johnston, was born in about 1788 probably in Ireland. He married Elizabeth Burns in about 1825. They had seven children, all born in Stranraer, Wigtonshire, Scotland. Some of their children immigrated to Ontario. Church records show her name as Anna Margaretha Rhein, she was from Pisdorf. They immigrated to America in 1741. They were the parents of thirteen children.
