William Hammock (1623-ca. 1701) was born at Ermingshire Parish, Devon, England. He immigrated to America in 1656 and settled in Northhampton County, Virginia. He and his wife, Alice, had three children. His great grandson, Robert Hammock (1737-1800), a soldier in the Georgia Militia, was born in Richmond County, Virginia, the son of Robert Hammock (ca. 1703-1786/7) and Ann Lambert Hammock (ca. 1710-after 1787).
