Harleston is a town and chapelry in the parish of Redenhall.

"The Scoto-Norman name of Moutray, originally written 'Multrer' and 'Multrare,' is said to have been introduced into Scotland in the reign of Malcolm III, about A.D. 1060." (p. [36]). William Harleston was born in 1804 on a plantation called The Hut, twenty-five miles from Charleston, South Carolina. His parents were William Harleston, Sr. and Sarah. He never married but spent his life with Kate Wilson (1825-1886), who was a slave, and they had eight children. He died in 1874.
