The Hasty families are of Scotch descent and many of them left the lowland and border counties of Scotland during the 17th century from Ulster (Northern Ireland) for America and settled in New England and the southern colonies. Maine and North Carolina were the two most populous states of the Hasty families in the 18th and 19th century.

John Hasty, of Scot lineage, was born in 1706 in Omerban, Clough parish, County Antrim, Ireland and married Jeanette Deecky. They immigrated before 1738 to York, Maine.

James Martin Hasty was born in 1735 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He married Nancy Rebecca McPherson in 1781. They had three sons, William McPherson (1784-1820), John Matthew (1789-1822) and James Martin, Jr. He died in 1843 in Richmond County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in North Carolina, Missouri and Kansas. Includes Bliss, Boyd, Sidebottom and related families.

William Armstrong was born 18 January 1784 near Fayetteville, North Carolina. He married Mary Ann King 30 March 1815 in Cumberland Co., North Carolina. They were the parents of four children. William died 9 December 1864. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and elsewhere.

John Ingram was born 9 September 1757 in Union County, South Carolina and died 16 September 1828. He married Ruth White 19 July 1778 in Fairforrest, Union County, South Carolina. She was born 19 July 1758 in Union County, South Carolina and died ca. 1854 in Cherokee County, Georgia.

William Hall (fl.1755-1756) immigrated from Scotland to the English colonies as a soldier in Braddock's army during the French & Indian War, and remained in New York City after the war, where he married a Miss Smith (also a Scottish immigrant). Descendants and relatives lived in New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and elsewhere.

George Anthony was born in North Carolina. He later moved to Ohio and then Illinois in 1836. He married (1) Margaret Bailey (1797-1823) and (2) Clarissa Parish (1799-1872). Descendants lived in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, California, Colorado, Oregon, and elsewhere.
