John Hartz, son of Georg Hatz (d. 1816) and Catherine Longenecker (d. 1804), was born in West Hanover Township (now East Hanover Township), Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in 1801. John married Catherine Hershey (1807-1874), the daughter of Christian Hershey and Susannah Landis in 1825. They moved to Lebanon County, Pennsylvania (eventually settling in Londonderry Township) in 1835. John and Catherine had nine children from 1826-1847. Descendants include...

Samuel Hartz was born 17 January 1800 in West Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Georg Hatz and Catharine Longenecker. He married Mary Brightbill 3 August 1824. They had twelve children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania and Illinois. Includes Bennett, Nesbit, Schirm and related families.

George Hatz (or Hott) Sr. was born ca. 1700 in Germany and married Magdalena Shantz sometime prior to the year 1738. They immigrated to America aboard the ship "Charming Nancy" and arrived in York, Pennsylvania 9 November 1738. George and Magdalena lived in White Hall, Frederick Co., Virginia and were the parents of four known children. Descendants lived primarily in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Samuel D. Hartz (1839-1892), son of John Hatz and Catharina Hershey was born in South Annville Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann Weltmer, daughter of Christian Weltmer and Susanna Hocker, in 1863. They had four children. He died in 1914 in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Felix Wyss, a Mennonite, and his family immigrated from the Palatinate of Germany to Pennsylvania in 1734. George Wise (1820-1886), a direct descendant in the fourth generation, moved from Pennsylvania (via California) to Clackamas County, Oregon and married Sarah Elizabeth Tong in 1859. Descendants lived in Oregon, California, Washington, Utah and elsewhere. Includes history and mythology of the Clackamas Indians.
