Three Hayden brothers, John (1606-1682), James (1619-1675), William (1605-1669) came to America on "Mary and John" in 1630. They first settled at Dorchester (now Quincy), Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, but soon spread to surrounding areas. John Hayden moved to Braintree, Mass., William to Connecticut, and James to Charleston, Mass. (now part of Boston). James Hayden married Elizabeth (1604-1680), and was made a freeman in 1637. John Hayden was born in 1611 in Devon, England. His parents were Gideon Hayden and Margaret Davy. He emigrated in 1630 and settled in Massachusetts. He married Susanna Dullen (1614-1684) in 1634 in Braintree, Massachusetts. They had seven children. John died in 1682. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa and Illinois.
