Hans John Hess (1683-1733)--son of Samuel Hess and Barbel Reiman-- immigrated in 1717 from Switzerland to Chester (later Lancaster) County, Pennsylvania. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Iowa, California and elsewhere. Includes some ancestry to the mid-1500s in Switzerland.

Description
Hans Herr (1639-1725), a Mennonite Bishop, was "... probably born either in northern Switzerland or in the Palatinate ..." He and his family immigrated about 1710 to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1719 his son, Christian Herr, build a stone structure to serve as his home and a Mennonite meetinghouse. This stone structure has been purchased by the Lancaster Mennonite Conference Historical Society, and is being restored.
