Chiefly a record of the descendants and some ancestors of Richard Ratcliff who was born ca. 1614 in Whalley Parish, Lancashire, England, and died 7 November 1675. He married Alice Rawsthorne, daughter of Nicholas and Mary Rawsthorne, ca. 1640. Richard and Alice were early members of the heavily persecuted Society of Friends church. John Harrod Sr. was of English ancestry and was likely born ca. 1700 in Massachusetts. He had two sons by his first wife before he married Sarah Moore ca. 1734 in Shenandoah Valley, Pennsylvania. Later they moved to Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania. John was the father of nine children and died ca. 1760 in Pennsylvania. Descendants lived primarily in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and elsewhere.
