The earliest certain Hales ancestor was Luke Hales (b. ca. 1795), who migrated with his family to Texas in 1844 by wagon from Tennessee or Mississippi (or both). His son William Hales married Emeline Hightower 1856 in Franklin County, Texas. The earliest identified ancestor of the Hightower family is John Hightower (b. 1810), the father of Emeline, born in Union County, South Carolina. He later moved to Alabama and Tennessee. William Julius Webb (1843-1906), son of Isiah Webb and Mary Moore, married Elizabeth Jane Davis (1851-1941) in 1866. He died in Wright County, Missouri. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Missouri. They had fourteen children.

Alexander Boteler was born in Maryland in 1764. He married Elizabeth Hackney Philpot and they were the parents of eight children. Later the family moved to Tennessee and Alabama. Descendants now live in Texas and elsewhere.
