In about 1790 James Hirst left his home, wife and children in Lancashire and moved to Amersham, Buckinghamshire. He appears to have had a son, also named James, by Ann Wingfield in 1794. This James married Mary Devonshire in about 1814 and they had nine children. Traces this small branch of the Hirst family until James' son Moses left Buckinghamshire in about 1851 and settled in Flaxely, Gloucester.
