Melton Meek grew up in Oklahoma during the first half of the twentieth century. He married and raised a family and practiced medicine for many years. He began collecting material on his ancestral lines which broadened into almost a general collection of materials on some Southern families back to colonial times. Family history of Isham Hodges (1763-1839) and Elizabeth (Betsy) Clay (1763-1836). He was born in the Chestnut Creek area of Henry Co., Virginia. He married Elizabeth Clay ca. 1782 probably in Henry Co. The couple had twelve children. In the spring of 1812 the whole family moved southwest and settled in middle Tennessee. They lived first in Smith and later in Sumner County of Tennessee.

Abraham Hodges, son of John Hodges and Abigail Odell, was born in 1837 in Detroit, Michigan. He married Alice Benjamin, daughter of Edmund Benjamin and Byanthe Bayne, in 1866 in Saginaw, Michigan. They had seven children. He died in 1923.

Robert Hodges (1675-1742) first appears on records in Virginia-Maryland area in the 1730s. By 1740 he had moved to North carolina where he died a few years later leaving a family of six children. Descendants of his grandson, William Henry Hodges (1770-1849) live in North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.

The first of the Hodges ancestry was John Hodges, born in 1790 in Virginia. He moved to Tennessee and then Marion and Jefferson counties in Illinois. He married Mary (Polly) Warren (b. ca. 1791, d. 1860-1866).
