The Hogan family descends from the O'Hogans who were a Dalcassian family which came to Ireland about 500 BC. A number of the members of the Hogan family fought against Cromwell in the 1600s and then fled Ireland after the Cromwellian invasion. These people became known as the Wild Geese. Patrick Brady and Jane Sheridan, both of Ireland, were married in Boston, Massachusetts in 1854. E'Cheon Couchon (Stephan Hogan I) and Mairance Pepion (Maranda Flagg Hogan) both of Canada, settled in Connecticut before 1870. Their children, Joseph Augustus Brady I and Mary Dora Hogan, married about 1900. Descendants have lived principally in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Alexander M. Ritchey was born in South Carolina but his parents are unknown. He moved to Livingston County, Kentucky at an early age. He married Racel Drennan in 1817 in Caldwell County. His wife was born in South Carolina to William Drennan and Mary Thomas. Alexander moved his family to Illinois in 1818 and to Texas in 1844. He died in Texas around 1865 and his wife died in 1873.
