Joseph Hooker immigrated during or before 1689 from the south of England or the Isle of Jersey to Wenham, Massachusetts. Joseph Hooker (1814-1879), direct descendant in the fifth generation, was born in Hadley, Massachusetts, and became a general in the U.S. Army during the Civil War (he was known as "fighting Joe Hooker"). Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Ohio, Illinois and elsewhere.

Joseph Hooker (1671-1753) was born in England and immigrated to Massachusetts in 1689 where he settled in Wenham. In 1692 he sent for Anna, a girl who worked at his father's estate. They were the parents of six children. Their numerous descendants were early settlers in new York, Illinois and the Oregon Territory. General Joseph Hooker of Civil War fame was a descendant. Descendants live throughout the United States.
