Enoch J. Wright (d. 1858) was born in New Jersey and moved to Pennsylvania where he married Anna Hoover (1800-1856). They were the parents of nine children, all born in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania In the 1840s they moved to Jackson County, Iowa where they settled. Their children married and settled Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and California. Descendants live throughout the United States.

The Hoover family appears to have come from the Palatinate in Germany. The original name of Huber was anglocized to Hoover. The earliest tracable ancestor was John Hoover (d. 1804) who resided in Washington County, Maryland. He was the father of nine children. Descendants moved to Rockingham County, Virginia, Ohio and other parts of the United States.
