Daniel Vance (1843-1895), the son of Elmer Franklin Vance, was born in Ohio and moved to Indiana with his family at age eight. He married Loretta Haley (1868-1924), daughter of James Haley and Caroline Matthews in 1868 in Indiana. They moved to Ida County, Iowa, in 1877. Daniel died in 1895 at Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa. Loretta married 2) Alfred Fred Upham in 1900. She died at Cerro Gordo, Iowa. Descendants live in Iowa and elsewhere.

Chiefly a history of Andrew Gless (1853-1943) who left France and came to New York City in 1872. He married Sophia Huetter (1859-1928) on 2 August 1877. They had twelve children and lived in the communities of Blue Grass, Iowa, Rogers and Schuyler, Nebraska. Descendents live in Iowa, Oregon, California, Washington, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere.

Valentine H. Smith was born 22 July 1838 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Frederick Kline Smith (1801-1873) and Mary Hiltebeitel (1808-1867). He married Elizabeth Walter (1834-1913) 2 January 1862 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had seven children. Valentine died in 1890. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Includes Bennett, Reiter, Walter and related families.
