Jeremiah Leavitt, his wife Eliza, and four daughters were among the those who left Nauvoo, Illinois, at the time of the general exodus of Latter-day Saints. They lived awhile at Kanesville, Pottawattamie County, Iowa and there on 1 February 1851, a son, Jeremiah, was born.
