Claes Jansen van Purmerend was a Dutch wheelwright who came to America before 1654 and bought land in New Jersey. He later sold this land and bought several pieces of land in the New York area. Short sketches of many of his descendants are included in this book. Irving T.C. Brown died in 1903 and was the last descendant covered by the material.

Olof Nordstom (1868-1959) was born in Duvberg, Sveg, Sweden, son of Sven Larsson Nordstrom and Britta Persdotter. His father changed his surname to "Nordstrom" about the time he immigrated to Minnesota in 1882. Ole married Alma Julia Ryden in Argyle, Minnesota and they later moved to Washington in 1929. Jacob Jansen from Etten in Holland immigrated in 1658 to Kingston, New York, and because there were other individuals with the same name in Kingston, this one becane Jacob Jansen von Etten (and eventually Van Etten).
