A tradition states that Nichols Jellison, who lived on fifty acres granted to him at Kittery, Maine, in 1671, had Danish ancestry. Nicholas and his wife, Barbara Green, had at least four children. Most descendants in the first six generations, listed, lived in Maine. Record traces male lines only.

Robert Jordan was baptized 12 January 1611 in Worcester, England. His parents were Edward Jordan and Elizabeth Broughton. He married Sarah Winter, daughter of John Winter and Joane Boaden, in January 1643/44 on Richmond Island, Cumberland, Maine. They had six children. He died 28 July 1679 in New Castle, New Hampshire. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota and California.

He and three of his sons served in the Revolutionary War according to records at Boston.
