Johann Gustafsson came to Delaware in 1643 as a soldier from the Kinnekulle region of Sweden. By 1669 he had settled in Kingsessing, near Philadelphia. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Illinois. The Gustafsson name was eventually changed to Justis or Justus.

Subject was ordained in Gloria Dei (Swedish Lutheran) Church (Philadelphia, Pa.) and was a hermit along the Wissahickon Creek near Germantown (Philadelphia, Pa.) before ministering in New York State.

Anton Smith, son of Louis Smith (Shnock) (1853-1930) and Elnora Justus, was born in 1896 in Kansas. He married Mary Brown (1901-1980), daughter of William Thomas Brown (1857-1929) and Anna Alice Morrow (1862-1952), in 1916. They had three children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and California. Includes Bowsher, Strayer and related families.

Jean Deford, born in 1665 in Toulouse, France, married Marie Marchand in 1685 in Toulouse, France. They immigrated to America and had 14 children. Jean died in 1730. His descendants to the 9th generation are traced to Warren Cylvester DeFord, born 19 Nov 1895. Many of his descendants are also listed. They have lived in Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and other areas in the United States.

John Huff or Johnnie Hough (b.1625), born in Holland of German lineage, married a Miss Stout, and about 1645 emigrated from The Netherlands to New Amsterdam, New York. They moved to either New Jersey or Pennsylvania when the British took over from the Dutch. The descendants traced herein emerged on land near Roanoke in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, California and elselwhere....

John Henry Krutsch (1856-1897) was born in Stahl am Karaman, Russia and married Katherine Elizabeth Justus (1860-1923) in 1878. They immigrated to South Dakota in 1892. Descendants lived in South Dakota, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Michigan, Wyoming, Colorado, Washington, and elsewhere.

Pieter Justus van Löben Sels was born in 1851 at Zutphen, Gilderland, the youngest of eight children of his father, Maurits Jacob van Löben Sels. He immgrated to the United States in 1876 and settled in California. The memoirs are chiefly of his life and family in the Netherlands. "Footnotes" p. 82-83.

Christian Easterday was born in Germany. He married Julianna Spiess (1732-1804), daughter of Johann Spiess, 22 January 1750/51 in York, Pennsylvania. They had eleven children. He died 15 November 1805 in Jefferson, Frederick, Maryland. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kansas.
