Alexander Kerr of Menie (c1664-1730), son of Robert Kerr and Elizabeth Gordon, married Margaret Gordon in 1684 in Aberdeen, Scotland. They had six surviving children. Their daughter, Elizabeth Kerr, married Patrick Smith, son of John Smith, in 1705.

James Kerr was born 27 June 1806 in Paisley, Scotland. His parents were Peter Kerr and Jean Christie. He married Marion Dunlop in 1830. They had six children. They emigrated in 1856. James died in 1877 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Includes Reid, Somers, Wells and related families.
