He married Julia Christensen in 1902, and settled in Boise, Idaho as a beginning lawyer. Beginning in 1933, he also edited and published a monthly newspaper, "The Challenge" (later "Idaho Challenge"), chiefly concerned with state political issues.

They immigrated to America from the Palatinate region of Germany with their two children and arrived in Philadelphia 17 October 1732. Johann Michael Fischer (1808-1884), son of Alexander and grandson of Joannes, emigrated in 1835 from Germany to New York, moved in 1839 to Louisiana, and then to St. Genevieve, Missouri, where he married Regina B. Vaeth in 1844 and moved to Clinton County, Missouri in 1852 (the surname was anglicized to Fisher). Descendants lived in Missouri, Washington and elsewhere.
