The Taylor family originated in Scotland, migrated to Ireland and to England and later to America. James "Old Corn" Taylor (1763-1846) was born in Georgia, married to Mary Mann in South Dakota in 1785, and died in Missouri. Some descendants of their six children were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Utah Colorado and elsewhere.
