James Smith and his wife, Mary Soesbe, had five children, 1821-1830. Samuel Smith and his wife, Lydia Caslaw, had seven children, 1829-ca. 1845. Wendell Essig was born in the canton of Berne, Switzerland ca. 1700. He came to Baltimore in 1750, married Anne Eve Matte, and settled near Hagarstown, Maryland. Their son, Simon (1754-1852), settled in Pennsylvania. He married Julia Schneer (1761-1844) and later eventually moved from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Stark County, Ohio in 1808. Descendants lived in Ohio, Indiana, and elsewhere.
