He married Mary Ann Suigie (1829-1875) 29 March 1849 in Brown County, Illinois. They had seven children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Missouri and Kansas. Conrad Giebelhaus, son of Conrad Giebelhaus (1780-1864) and Marie Elisabeth Hoff, was born in 1822 in Norka, Russia. He married Katherine Yost (1819-1897). They had five children. Four of their children emigrated and settled in Portland, Oregon. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Russia, Oregon, Washington and California.

Michael Schnurr married Rosa Benz, and their five sons (Ignatz, Daniel, Leander, Julius, Anton), who were born between 1830 and 1839, all immigrated in 1853 from Germany to St. Louis, Missouri, later moving to land near Davenport, Iowa. Leander and Julius served in the Union Army during the Civil War, and Anton (who changed his name to Andrew) served in the Confederate Army.
