John Grosnickel (b.ca. 1717) immigrated from Germany to Philadelphia in 1738, settled in Frederick County, Maryland, and married twice. Peter Grosnickel (ca.1728-1822), his brother according to family tradition, immigrated from Germany to Philadelphia in 1746, married twice, and also settled in Frederick County, Maryland. Descendants and relatives of the brothers lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan and elsewhere.

Thomas Morrow was born 28 February 1806 in Greenbriar County, West Virginia. His parents were James Morrow, Jr. and Jane Luddington. He married Matilda Snook (b. 1807), daughter of John Snook and Nancy Brion, in about 1828 in Jackson County, Ohio. They had eleven children. He died in 1855 in Barnes City, Iowa.
