Jacob Gerber (b.1732) was born in the German Palatinate of Swiss immigrant parents, and immigrated (via Rotterdam) to Philadelphia in 1753 with his brothers, Michael and Simon. He settled on land near Johnsville, Maryland. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Garber) and relatives lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and elsewhere.
