Joseph Bassett (1843-1915) and Emma Grindy Lomas/Loomis (1845-1923) were married in 1861, at Staffordshire, England. In 1873, they immigrated to Allegheny, Co., Pennsylvania. In 1879 they moved to Johnstown where they reared their ten children. Descendants lived in New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Maryland and elsewhere.

The immigrant ancestor of this family, Jacob Leidy, was born about 1700 in Kirchhausen, Kried Heilbronn, Wurttemberg, Germany. He died in 1781 in Franconia Twp., Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. He had married Hannah (1700-1776) in Germany. They had six children. Descendants live in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Iowa, California, Ohio, Washington, Michigan and elsewhere.
