Ancestors of James and Henry Leonard, brothers and sons of Thomas Leonard of Pontipool, Wales. James and Henry immigrated in 1652 to Taunton, Massachusetts. The ancestry (including nobility) is in the lines of Dacre, Fienes, Neville, Stafford, and the Houses of Gloucester and Lancaster, in addition to that of the Leonard (Lennard) family, and goes back to about 1066 A.D. Most of this ancestry lived in England, and some lived in Wales.

A brief history of the Lennards, a prominent Anglican family involved in the textile business in Ontario, Canada during the past 100 years. Samuel Lennard was born in Leicester, England in 1829, married Maria Exton in 1852, and immigrated to Toronto in 1870. In 1878, Dundas, Ontario became the site of the highly successful S. Lennard & Sons Limited hosiery manufacturing firm.
