Susannah "Susan" Lester (1800-187?) was born in Lunenburg County, Virgin Virginia and married Thomas Paine Gibbs in Davidson County, Tennessee where her family had settled. He later abandoned her and their unborn child, Felix Grundy Gibbs. They later settled in Madison County where she married two other times. Felix became a wealthy land owner and was the father of four children.

Descendants of William Thomas Lester (1802-1859), born in Kentucky, and married Margaret E. Talkington (1812-1900), also born in Kentucky, in abt. 1830. They had twelve children. Chiefly a record of some of the descendants and ancestors of William Dewey. William was born 21 Feb 1821 near Charleston, Pennsylvania, to Gideon Dewey and Lucy Bishop. He married 6 Oct 1844 to Phebe H. Burley. Phebe was born 19 Mar 1823 and died 20 Jun 1887. They were the parents of ten children. William died 25 Apr 1896. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, New York, California and elsewhere.

Family legend holds that Sir John Akin, who was born in about 1640 and married in Aberdeen, Scotland, was the first Akin in America. He was killed in King Philipps War in about 1675. Descendants were mostly Quakers. They lived mainly in New York, Pennsylvania and Nova Scotia. Includes Thomas, Lester, Caldwell and related families.
