The English congregation organized in 1862 after dissension with the German congregation in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1910 the name was changed to St. John's English Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Description
Church was organized in 1860 after several years of protracted meetings. In 1862 dissension between English and German members resulted in the English forming own church, later known as St. John's. In 1865 dissension between German members over the Sacrament resulted in a group leaving the church in 1870 to become Immanuel's Church; they reunited with church after 1885.
