David or Benauel Bonfrey-Bonnefoy was born in France and later married Catherine Lasty-Mercier in 1694 in New York. Their son, Richard, was an early settler in Middle Haddam, Connecticut. Descendants lived in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Michigan, Kansas, Alberta, Washington, and elsewhere. Many descendants changed the name to "Bonfoey or Bonfoy".
