He married Susan Sarah Wingate 7 September 1853. Sarah, daughter of Peter Wingate and Elizabeth Ward, was born 14 December 1833 in New Castle, New Castle, Delaware. She died 22 September 1894 in Atlanta, Macon, Missouri. They had eleven children.
