John Macdoland was born in Garth, near Perthshire, Scotland. He was the son of Angus Og Macdonald. He married (1) Catherine Wilson. They had four children. He married (2) Magdeline Small about 1770. They had three children. She was the daughter of John or James Small. Magdeline died November 3, 1787 in Scotland. He married (3) Margaret Buchanan. They had one child.
