William Manley (ca.1650-1732) and Lazarus Manley (ca.1660-1749), brothers, lived in Boston, Massachusetts. William married Phebe Brooks, and Lazarus married Sarah Hartshorn. Descendants lived in New England, New York, California and elsewhere. In an attempt to trace the parents of William and Lazarus, the author includes data about other Manley (Manly) individuals and families in colonial New England.

Nathaniel Manley Hayward (1808-1865) was born at Easton, Massachusetts, the son of Jerathmeel Hayward (b.1776) and Rebecca Manely Hayward (b. 1780). He married Louisa Buker (1814-1880 in 1838. Howard Manley (1827-1919) and his wife, Syrena (1834-1907) had six children, 1853-1874. Their daughter, Alta E. Manly (1874- 1907), and her husband, John I. Prince (1877-1969), had two daughters, 1904-1906. Their daughter, Marian Alta Prince (b. 1904) and her husband, Sidney W. Smith (b. 1899), had three three sons, 1922-1929.

David and Alexander Kyncade were the two younger sons of James Kyncade of Scotland who fought in the unsuccesssful Stuart rebellion. They and many of their children were forced to leave Scotland and make a new life in America. Most settled in Virginia and information about many of their descendants is included in this volume. Descendants gradually moved west settling in Kentucky, Missouri, and elsewhere.
