Carl Kopetz (b. 1849) was born in Doehlau, East Prussia, the son of Johnn Kopetz (Kopetsch) and Gottliebe Falarsz. In about 1873 or 1874 he married Marie Karlowski (b. 1854), the daughter of John Karlowski and Anna Lehman, of Kreis Osterode, East Prussia. In 1880 they sailed from Hamburg to America and settled in Decatur, Illinois. Descendants lived in Illinois, California, Connecticut, and elsewhere.
