Description
Samuel Wallis (d.1724) was probably born in England and immigrated to Maryland by the early 1700s and settled in Kent County where he became a wealthy land owner. He married Ann Beck and they became the parents of seven children. Their numerous descendants live throughout the United States.

Cotton Mather (1663-1728) is famous as the clergyman involved with the witch trials in Massachusetts (although the guide to these papers only refers to one witch trial as a separate entity). Thomas Walter (d. 1698) emigrated from Youghall, Ireland to America in 1679. His family was originally from Lancashire, England. He was the father of Nehemiah Walter (1663-1750) who was a minister in early New England. He married Sara Mather, daughter of Increase Mather and Maria Cotton, and was the father of nine children.

In 1828 Francis Cotton and his wife Anna Maria Tilney Cotton emigrated to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). They settled on a farm they named Kelveden after the village in Essex which Anna Maria had come from. The Cottons were the parents of fourteen children. He was a successful farmer and businessman and the children married into local families such as the Mathers and the Greubers. Descendents live in Tasmania and Australia.
