Description
Peter Matson (1851-1919), a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, emigrated from Sweden to Salt Lake City in 1873. Also in 1873, he married Mathilda Christena Liljedahl (1851-1921). They lived in Mount Pleasant, Utah. The bulk of this volume consists of transcriptions of translations of Peter's journal--the entries begin in 1871 and continue through 1908.

Maude Mary Ford (1878-1971), daughter of Frederick Lafayette Ford (1849-1939) and Mary Salina East (1850-1935), was born in Marshalltown, Iowa. She married John Oren Matson (1873-1956) in 1899 in Bethany, Nebraska. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Nebraska, Texas and California.

A genealogy of the Schafer family of Illinois who are the descendants of Gielbert (Cielbert) Schafer (Schaffer or Scheffer) born 1610 and buried 18 Nov 1667 in Germany. A 4th great grand son Johannes (John F.) Schafer (1815-1887) and his wife Louise Magdalene Scheuer (1810-1881) emigrated to America in 1854. They were living in Princeton, Illinois in 1857.
