Description
Nathan Maddox was living in Charlotte County, or Pittsylvania County, Virginia, in 1770, when he witnessed a deed in Charlotte County. He and his family moved to Bedford County, Virginia, in 1772 or 1773. He and his wife, Prudence, had at least eight children, 1773-1787. Descendants lived in Virginia, Ohio, Georgia, and elsewhere. Some descendants spelled their name "Mattox.".
Includes the Ayers, Hewitt, Fish, and other related families.

Description
The diary and Civil War Letters of Samuel Hurley Mattox (1833-1864) from August, 1862 - May 1864. Samuel was the youngest brother of the author's greatgrandfather, John Pinkston Mattox. He volunteered in the service of the U.S. in Co. C, 85th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers. He died in 1864 while in the service, leaving behind his wife Ann and two daughters. Ann married Joseph H. Holmes in 1867 in Riley, Indiana.

George Washington O'Brien was born in Brown County, Ohio ca. 1823. He married three times. By 1850 he was living in Clay County, Indiana he moved to Missouri by 1857 and to Arkansas by 1884. He had six children by Nancy D. Tribble and one child by Rebecca Henderson. George died 1912 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Descendants lived primarily in Indiana, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma and elsewhere.
