Robert P. Mauck was born on 8 May 1782 in Hamburg, Shenandoah (now Page County), Virginia and died on 15 July 1834. He is buried in Cheshire Township, Gallia, Ohio. He married (1) Esther Ruffner on 7 January 1811 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. He married (2) Christinia Ruffner circa 1814. The family moved from Virginia to Addison Township, Gallia, Ohio in 1826. There were nine children.

He married Maria Faith, daughter of Henry Faith and Elizabeth Pike, Sept 22, 1818 in Heth Township. she was born June 16, 1799 in Kentucky and died Nov. 5, 1877 in Harrison County. Pater Mauck (1708-1771) immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1733, and migrated to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia by 1735. He married Juliana Reinhart in 1739 and they settled in Frederick County. Descendants lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Iowa and Tennessee, Indiana and elsewhere.

There were a number of Whitings who eventually immigrated to America from England. The earliest known Whiting to immigrate to America was James Whiting who came to Virginia in 1617.
