John May (1590-1670) was the master of sea vessel named "the James" which he sailed as early as 1635 between London and New England. He emigrated in about 1640 with two of his sons, John (b. 1631) and Samuel. They settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Ohio.

Simon Huntington (1583-1633) was born in England (perhaps in Hempstead). He married twice, and immigrated in 1633 with his second wife, Margaret Huntington, to Roxbury, Massachusetts. He died at sea, and she married Thomas Stoughton in 1635/1636 and settled in Windsor, Connecticut. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Washington, California and elsewhere.

Charles Edward Smith, son of John Dell Fletcher Smith (1843-1888) and Beatrice Katherine Griffin (1849-1917), was born in 1883 in Arkansas. He married Nora Arminda McPherren (1888-1961), daughter of Jesse Workman McPherren (1847-1926) and Arminda F. Weeks, in 1908 in Little Rock, Arkansas. They had nine children. He died in 1927. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Arlkansas.

Henry White James (b.1797) is thought to be the son of Thomas James of South Carolina. Sometime before 1814, the family moved to Tennessee. Henry married (1) Martha Brown (b.1792) in Tennessee.
