Samuel Kirkpatrick (1779-1849) was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, the son of Benjamin Kirkpatrick, a Revolutionary War soldier. He and his wife, Barbara (1780-1856), had thirteen children, 1803-1822. The family migrated from to Ohio in 1809 and settled on land in Wayne Township, Butler County. He is buried at Collinsville, Ohio. Descendants listed lived in Ohio, Indiana, and elsewhere. Includes the McCain and other related families.

Hugh McCain (ca.1729-1811) was possibly an immigrant from County Antrim, Ireland, or was born in southeast Pennsylvania. He moved to Mecklenburg County, Virginia, married twice, and served in the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and elsewhere.

Hugh McCain Sr. (ca. 1729-1821) lived in the Waxhaw area of North Carolina in 1753. He married (1) probably Mary Eleanor McNutt (ca. 1733-ca. 1788) and (2) Jane Pickens Davis. Descendants lived in Tennessee, Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and elsewhere.

Daniel Brown, son of William and Lucy Brown, was born June, 1755 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He was ordained a Baptist preacher when he was only twenty-two years old. He married Mary (Polly) Pemberton, daughter of Richard Pemberton of Cumberland County, Virginia. The children of Reverend Daniel Brown and Lucy were all born in Christian County, Kentucky.

James Ross McCain was born in 1881 in Tennessee to John Irenaeus McCain and Louisa Jane Todd. He married in 1906 in Georgia to Elizabeth Pauline Martin. They had 8 children.
