Newman McCollum, 1774-1857, was the son of Ann and Henry McCollum or MacCallon. His father was a Scottish Highlander who settled in South Carolina and died in 1782. Newman McCollum migrated to Alabama in 1824. He and his wife Elizabeth Guise had several children: Henry, Elizabeth, James K. and Joseph.

Levi Thompson (1829-1910), son of Berry Thompson and Mary McCollum, was born in Randolph County, North Carolina. He came to Green County, Iowa in 1855. He married (1) Artimirra Page (1826-1883), daughter of Pleasant and Elizabeth Page in 1852 and (2) Mary D. Allstat. Two lines are traced to Stephen McCollum, born ca. 1763 in North Carolina. Descendants and family members lived in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Kansas, Indiana, and elsewhere.

James Daniel Easley, son of Robert M. Easley and Mary Ann McCollum was born in 1868 in Tennessee. He married Margaret Melvina McCullough, daughter of George Wesley McCulllough and Margaret Hudspeth, in 1894 in Fort Worth, Texas. They had four children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Tennessee, Missouri and Texas.

Effie Bassett was born September 13, 1868 in Evansville, Douglas County, Minnesota. Her parents were George Dempsey Bassett and Hester Ann Salley. Effie married Theodor Lewis Ekman July 22, 1885. They had six children. Theodor disappeared in about 1899. Effie married Jacob K. Gifford in about 1901 and had four children. They moved to Fallon, Montana in 1907.
