William Vaughan came to America, probably from Wales, in the early 1700s and settled in Virginia. He married a Cherokee, Fereby Benton. They lived successively in the Clinch River Valley, now Russell County, Virginia; Hawkins County, Tennessee; and Wayne County, Missouri. William died in northwest Arkansas ca. 1838. Deborah Ross (1842-1918) was born in Newcomerstown, Ohio, daughter of Joseph Ross and Mary Slutts. In 1862 she married George Laughlin and they settled in Illinois, where they had been living prior to their marriage. They later lived in Missouri, Iowa, Ohio, and Kansas.

Zachariah Johnston was born ca. 1784 in County Derry, Ireland, He married Jane Grace Todd (ca. 1786-ca. 1867) ca. 1809. They had eight children. Zachariah died about 1828 in Pennsylvania. John McGinnis was born ca. 1798 in Guilford Hill, County Down, Ireland. He married Mararet Adamson or Adams or Sullivan (ca. 1797-1877) in Guilford Hill about 1823. They had seven children. Alexander McGinnis (d.1829) was born before 1775 in Ireland. Abraham McGinnis (1786-1842) is believed to be one of his sons. Abraham married Deborah Clark (b.1786) in Pulaski County, Kentucky in 1807. The family was located earlier in Virginia. Family members were located later in Illinois, Texas, Arkansas and elsewhere.

Michael A. McGinnis was born in Dublin, Ireland. He married Catherine McGuire and they immigrated to America ca. 1835-1836. He married second, Catherine Elizaeth Gross in 1846. Michael died in Johnson County, Iowa. Descendants lived in Oregon, Iowa, Massachusetts, Colorado, and elsewhere.

James Suitor or Shuter (d.ca.1850/1851) married Mary Stuart or Stewart, and the family emigrated during or before 1833 from northern Ireland to St. Sylvester, Quebec. A brother, Thomas, and his family also emigrated. In addition there were other Suitor families immigrating to St. Sylvester or to St. Catherine, Quebec, and probably these Suitor families were all related. Descendants and relatives lived in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia...

Daniel Witt was born in Virginia in 1787. His descendants through his son Daniel who was born in 1832, his grandson Alpha, born in 1865, and his great grandson Alpha Glenn Witt who was born in 1901 are portrayed in this volume with short biographical sketches.
