John McGraw was born 27 October 1826 in Virginia. His parents were Samuel McGraw and Sabine Surratt. He married Mahala Cozort, daughter of Peter Cozort and Sally Acord, 3 November 1848 at Shockley's Fork, Virginia. They had eleven children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in West Virginia.

William Ferguson Slemons was born 15 March 1830 in Dresden, Weakley Co., Tennessee. He was a descendant of Thomas Slemons who was born in Perth, Scotland and immigrated to America ca. 1723. Thomas settled in Pennsylvania. William married Martha Susan Howard 13 December 1855 in Drew Co., Arkansas. They lived in Monticello, Arkansas and were the parents of seven children. Descendants lived in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, California and elsewhere.

Henry Hendricks was born in 1730 in New Jersey. He married Sarah Ann Thompson in 1751 and they had twelve children. Sometime about 1770 they moved south into the Carolinas and later their descendants moved to Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, Utah, Oregon, and elsewhere. Two brothers McGraw immigrated from Scotland (via Ireland) to Bennington in Vermont. Samuel McGraw (b.1772), a son of one of the brothers, was raised by Governor Tichnor of Vermont. He married Elizabeth Whitcomb, and after several moved in New York, settled at and created McGrawville, New York. Descendants and relatives lived in Vermont, New York and elsewhere.
