John Lloyd Brower was born 29 May 1893 in Silt, Colorado. His parents were Eliphalet Brower (1837-1893) and Ellen McMahan (1853-1915). He married Rachel Ellen Jorgensen (1898-1974), daughter of Asmus Jorgensen (1844-1916) and Anna Laura Lamb (1871-1941), 4 July 1915 in Golden, Colorado. They had four children. John McMahan, his wife, Margaret Murray, and son James McMahan, immigrated to America ca. 1735, probably from northern Ireland, and settled in Lock Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. John and Margaret had eight more children, born in Pennsylvania. He died in Cumberland County in 1767. Most descendants listed lived in Pennsylvania.

Samuel R. Marcum (1818-1884) and Demiah Kirk (ca. (ca. 1827-1851) were married in 1843 at Louisa, Lawrence Co., Ky. Marion Francis, their first son was born in 1845 in Virginia. John Harvey and Cynthia were born in Ohio. The family migrated to Ind. Ill., Ia., Mo., and Kan. Marion served in the Civil War from Falls City, Neb. He married Josephine Walker.
