Description
Phillip Raiford was living in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, by 1674. He and his wife, Sarah, had at least eight children. He died in 1724. Descendants listed, chiefly descendants of his sons, Philip (ca. 1790-1849) and Matthew (ca. 1687-1758), lived in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and elsewhere.

John McLean (d.1846), a native of the island of Mull in Scotland, immigrated in 1792 from Glasgow to Wilmington, North Carolina. He purchased land in upper Robeson (now Hoke) County, North Carolina, and married Effie McLean soon after his arrival. Descendants and relatives lived in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and elsewhere.

Sampson Stuart McNeill (1776-1851) was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. ca. 1792. He married Lavina Swain in 1806. She had been born in Virginia in 1792. They migrated to Ohio from Virginia before 1819. Descendants lived in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, and elsewhere.

Robert Band was born in 1540 in Coventry, England. He married Ales Marshall November 31, 1562. They had eight children. Ten generations later they had three descendants named George Band.
