Walter Ker was born in 1656 in Scotland, where he was a parishioner in the Dalsert, Lanarkshire parish. He and his wife Margaret emigrated to America in 1685. Hugh Given McVey (1878-1926), son of David Enoch McVey and Emily Elizabeth Forsythe, was born in Rix Mills, Ohio, and died in Kansas City, Missouri. William Horace English (1854-1936) was the eldest son of Amaziah and Sarah Eleanor Anderson English of Butler Co., Pennsylvania. His father's family moved to Scioto Co., Ohio, ca. 1859. John William McVey (1862-1936) was the son of Henry McVey and Mary Miller of near Lewisburg, Iowa. He married Zantha Louella (Lillie) Ritchie (1855-1942), the daughter of David Ritchie of Lee's Summit, Missouri in 1882. They were the parents of five children: Mary Louella, William Matthew, Linden Guy, Elsie Maybelle and Nancy Goldina McVey. Several generations of descendants are given. Family members lived in Iowa and Kansas.

Thomas Floyd McVay and Pharney Jenkins were married in 1835. He was also married to Margaret Ellis and Sarah Ann Howard. He and Sarah Ann, with two children, migrated to Poweshiek Co., Iowa where four more children were born. One son, William Frank, married Leona Caroline McNeal in 1874. Descendants of their seven children have scattered throughout the Midwest.
