Robert McWilliams, of Scot lineage, was born in 1819 in County Antrim, Ireland and married Elizabeth Cush in 1841. They immigrated in 1845 to Virginia, and later moved to Ben Hill, Georgia. He married widow Lucinda Brown Taylor in 1871 and died in 1882.

Daniel McWilliams (1825-1871) was born in Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland. He married Mary Jane Neill in 1846. They immigrated to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia in 1854. Daniel left the family in 1863 and moved to New York. He enlisted in the Union Army. After the Civil War he lived in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania.
