Chiefly parental ancestors, relatives, and family of the author's mother, Madge Edna Landers Mead (1912-1995). She was born in Wheeler County, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Adrian Landers (1886-1968) and Emma Nita Boase (1889-1962). She married Clyde Cecil Mead 4 Jul 1937. They were the parents of two children. Ancestry is traced back to Christopher Landis (ca. 1710-1771) who died in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Ira Mead (ca. 1806-1882) was born possibly in Vermont He married Mariah before 1828. He later died in New Hamburg, Ontario. Descendants lived in Illinois, Michigan, Ontario, and elsewhere. .

William James Mead was born in 1861 at Blenheim, Ontario and was the son of Thomas C. Mead, who was born in Nova Scotia. William immigrated to Fernald, Iowa. He married Emma Jane Smay in 1889 and died in 1924.

Henry Sampson was one of the Mayflower Pilgrims, who arrived at Plymouth in 1620, as a member of the family of his uncle, Edward Tilley. He was one of the first settlers of Duxbury, Massachuestts.
